Heer was an extremely beautiful woman; Her beauty became acknowledged throughout the land for her exquisite. She was from Sial and belonged to Jat family (present day Jhang, Pakistan). Murad Bukhsh belonged to the tribe named Ranjha. All his peers called him Dheedo and was youngest of all his brothers.

As a result, his father was always lenient on him and let him do whatever he wanted to. Dheedo would mostly wander around the land and play his flute. While he played around the land, his four brothers worked in the fields for ration and capital. As the judgment day approached and the family witnessed the death of Mauju Chaudhry, Dheedo’s father, a wave of tension broke out between the brothers. Ranjha decided to leave the household and live his life on his own terms with respect. According to Warish Shah, Ranjha left his sister-in-law’s household because he was humiliate.

Wandering in the lands, Ranjha came across the Heer’s village and fell in love in the first glance. Ranjha took the job as a cattle herder by Heer’s father. He accepted the job out of love for Heer. Ranjha played his flute and Heer would listen to him, gradually over the span of 12 years of constantly meeting in secret. Heer fell heel over toes for Ranjha and his flute. Ranjha would herd the castles in the morning and by night fall would meet Heer. However, one day the stars were not in favor of Heer Ranjha as Heer’s uncle Kaido saw them meeting secretly.

As a result of this revelation, Heer’s parents decided to marry her to the Maulvi. Making the groom Saida Khera. Upon hearing this news of union, Ranjha was heartbroken. The brutal turn of fate compelled him to wander off the land and started walking the journey as an ascetic (religion less hermit). Ranjha met Gorakanth, a Shaiva Joji who taught him the lifestyle of becoming a saint.

As Ranjha embarked on his new journey he pierced his ear and started wandering off land to land. As time flew and villages visited, fate brought Ranjha back to the village of Heer’s residency. The first glance happened again and fate seemed to have work its charm to connect these two souls.

The Reunion

Seeing the reunion and attachment between the couple, Heer’s family manifested their love and made Ranjha her lawful husband. Despite all the disagreements they underwent, they found each other! But people never approved their love and Heer’s uncle Kaido planned to kill the couple in order to save their community and respect. He poisoned the desert. As dramatic as it sounds, but as soon as Ranjha figured out the mess it was too late. The intoxication of the poisonous laddu killed Heer leaving Ranjha at a miserable state.
